What is Biology?

Biology is a science that deals with all living organisms. Plants, animals, bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc. are subjects of biology.  With the help of laws of chemistry and physics biology tries to explain life. Zoology and botany are main subjects of biology.

Biology deals with living things such as plants, animals and human beings.

1. Zoology: Deals with animals and has following subtopics;

• Entomology: It deals with insects.
• Ornithology: It deals with the birds.
• Mammalogy: It deals with mammals.
• Ichthyology: It deals with fishes.
• Protozoology: It deals with the unicellular organisms.
• Cetology: It deals with marine mammals.
• etc.

2. Botany: Deals with plants.

• Morphology: It is the branch of biology that deals with form and structure of organisms.
• Anatomy: It deals with inner body and structure of organisms.
• Cytology: It deals with microscopic structure of plant and animal cells.  
• Histology: It deals with microscopic structures of plant and animal tissue.
• Physiology: It deals with functions and activities of cells and parts of body.
• Embryology: It deals with development of embryos from fertilization to the fetal stage.
• Genetic: It deals with genes, heredity of all living organisms.
• Evolution: It deals with the origin of the life and organism and changes of species over time.
• Ontogeny: I deals with the stages of development of an individual from the most primitive to the most perfect.
  (The entire developmental history of an individual organism.)
• Taxonomy: It deals with the classification of organisms.
• Ecology: It deals with the interaction of all organisms with each other and their environment.
